However, plasticizers were harmful to health especially for plastics food container. Phthalate esters are commonly used as plasticizers to plastics, among them, dimethyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, di-normal-butyl phthalate, butyl benzyl phthalate, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate and di-normaloctyl phthalate are used most often. For environmental and health concern, many countries restrict the use of plasticizers, therefore, developing an simple, accuracy and low detection limit analytical method for detecting phthalate esters is in demand. The study investigates the 6 phthalate esters by poly(methacrylic acid–ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) monolithic capillary column extraction and HPLC analysis. The results shows that the detection limits are below 0.03 μg/mL for the 6 phthalate esters by direct HPLC analysis. When apply the monolithic capillary column extraction and HPLC analysis, the enrichment are 5.8~47.4, and the detection limits are below 2 μg/L. As spiked 0.01 μg/mL and 0.2 μg/mL standard solutions of the 6 phthalate esters to real samples, the recoveries are between 62.0~109.7%. By apply the method developed, it can be lower the detection limits for phthalate esters’analysis. The method can be used in low phthalate esters concentrations determination.
