| Summary: | 碩士 === 南開科技大學 === 福祉科技與服務管理所 === 97 === According to the statistics report of Department of Health, Executive Yuan, Taiwan, 2007, the number of the death caused by diabetes was at the fourth place of the Ten Leading Causes of Death. Since more than half of the diabetic deceased are elderly, the seniors over 65 are classified as the high-risk group.
The impact of the diabetes on elderly is severe; however, it could be under a great control if the diabetic patients are diagnosed and treated earlier and correctly. The current methods of detection related to diabetes are: the glucose tolerance test and the insulin sensitivity test. For the insulin sensitivity test, the Minimal Model method is simpler and less labor-intensive than the glucose clamp technique.
In this work, we have presented a complete review and discussion on the crucial literatures related to the Minimal Model on glucose kinetic analysis since 1979. It includes the Cold Minimal Model, the Hot Minimal Model and the Oral Glucose Minimal Model developing and the experiment results. We look forward to this work can benefit the clinical research as well as the diagnosis and the treatment of diabetic patients in Taiwan.
