碩士 === 國立屏東商業技術學院 === 國際企業所 === 97 === This study examines the impact of internationalization on performance of parent companies, and further investigates the moderating effect of firm size and types of integration on the above relationship. By classifying a sample of 1,880 Taiwanese manufacturers into four categories (metal mechanics, information electronics, chemistry and commodity industries), these empirical results reveal that the inverted-U shaped relationship between internationalization and performance indicates a better goodness of fit than others. Firm size moderates negatively the relationship between internationalization (foreign R&D ratio) and performance in chemistry industries while firm size has no significant moderating effect in other industries. As for the moderating effect of integration, we obtain mixed results among these industries.
