Quasi-experiment was adopted, applying pre-test, post-test and follow-up test to experimental group and control group. The participants were 16 students in one of southern science college in Taiwan. These 16 college students were divided into the experimental group and the control group. Participants of the experimental group received 10 sessions of group counseling, and one session per week. The control group did not received any treatment. The “Gender Impression Scale” and “Gender egalitarianism Attitude Scale” were applied for pre-test, post-test and follow-up test to both experimental group and control group. The obtained data were tested with Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney to assess whether there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group. At the same time, the researcher conducted analysis of the group process records, interview and the feedback by the participants as to further investigate into the influence of the group counseling. The major findings of the study were listed as following. First, the gender egalitarianism group counseling showed immediate and follow-up effects on alleviating gender role stereotype and improving gender egalitarianism attitude of the experimental group. Second, from the group process and interviews of participants, it was found that the participants changed positively from group counseling in terms of group interaction, cognition, behaviors and self-gender identity. The group interaction benefits were support emotions, increase positive emotions, universality and benefit from each others feedback. The cognitive changes were respect for gender characteristics, rebound female passive role, adjust gender role responsibility, courage to face sexual harassment, and respect homosexuality. The behavioral changes were increase the sensitivity of gender issues, practice gender egalitarianism, and set up goals for future. The self-gender identity changes were accept self characteristics, appreciate the beauty of self, and find the way out for self’s own. Finally, the further discussions based on results of the study, and some suggestions were provided for practitioners and future research by referring to the researcher’s experiences in the study.
