From sport Motivation point of view, Examination of a relationship between athletic burnout and passion.

碩士 === 國立體育大學 === 體育研究所 === 97 === The purposes of this study were to examine : (a) the relationship between athletic burnout and passion, (b) the relationship between athletic burnout and sport motivation, (c) the relationship between passion and sport motivation, (d) the relationship between athlete burnout and athletic engagement, (e) the relationship between passion and athletic engagement. 345 adolescent athletes (males=207; females=138) was recruited from 6 senior high schools. Participants, ranged in age from 15-19 years (M=17.45, SD=1.00), completed Athlete Burnout Questionnaire, Passion Scale , Sport Motivation Scale-6 (SMS-6), Athlete Engagement Questionnaire. Pearson Correlation Analysis revealed: (a) athlete burnout was negatively associated with passion, (b) athletic burnout was negatively associated with both intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (four types), and positively associated with amotivation, (c) passion was positively associated with both intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (four types), and negatively associated with amotivation, (d)athletic engagement was positively associated with both intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation (four types), and negatively associated with amotivation. In the perspective of both sport motivation and athletic engagement, passion was counter to burnout. With higher level of autonomy, athletes will have much more passion and less burnout.
