From the angle of cultural hegemony and Baudrillard’s value theory of symbolic consumption, the nature of Taiwan’s present consumerism was investigated. The author noted the gradual loss of individual subjectivity and identified two major characteristics of the consumer culture: conspicuous symbolic consumption and loss of self-value, which formed the core of her creative current. She limited her creation to the trend of luxury goods consumerism and the female fetish, from which she developed and mapped out three series of Chinese ink paintings, including “Flamboyant Fashions”, "Who am I?” and “Where am I?” In order to fully convey the vain and illusory nature of popular culture, the author brought together elements such as department store windows, fashion apparel, and luxury accessories in the formal expression of the works to emphasize the subject of “Flamboyant Fashion” and enrich the work’s formal structure and colour expression. Besides, she also attempted to incorporate multiple media and textural techniques to enhance the artistic expression of her works and better articulate the full extent of the concept. Keywords: Chinese ink painting, popular culture, symbolic consumption, cultural hegemony. Zhuang,Lian-Dong 莊連東 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 80 zh-TW
