Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 諮商與應用心理學系碩士班 === 97 === This study is an exploratory study that seeks to understand an experience, a course and a recovery process of self-mutilation behaviors with college students. Based on three college students who had repeated self-mutilated and had stopped self-mutilated since one year at least, the study adopted the qualitative methods and analyze the interview contents by in-depth interviews. The findings of study is stated as follows: 1. Self-cutting (wrist or hand) was a common form of self-mutilation behavior, and the primary intention of self-mutilation was to regulate negative emotion. 2. The risk factors of self-mutilation included the aspects of family, school, interpersonal relationship, self and another. Among the risk factors, family problem was easier triggered off self-mutilation, and was make a long term influence for the self-mutilation on college students; and romantic relation was the major trigger for self-mutilation in the university period, and the emotion vulnerable with the suppressed character also easier predicted self-mutilation. 3. Family, school, interpersonal relationship, romantic relation, another social resources and good life events were helped the participants to stopped self-mutilations. Among, a school was supplied various life events that could promote internal and external protective factors appeared. 4. Individuals’ internal changes were the best recovery factors included the aspects of cognitive, affection, behavior and ego-strength. 5. Psychological helping must be modulated along with individual diversity, and a stable helping relationship was a basic element when assist with self-mutilated college students. 6. Participants suggested that value self and others, release feelings or physical strength, and seek care from others can help self through the crisis of self-mutilation. Finally, based on the findings, the researcher propose some suggestions for reference with regard to self-mutilated college students, colleges and helpers who had confronted the plight of college students’ self-mutilation behavior.
