Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 教育學系 === 97 === The purpose of this thesis was to discuss the implementation of character education in elementary school and its performance. Among the research, some representative topics were discussed, such as the ideals and conception of building up of character education, implementation situation, influencing factors and performance of execution on character education, some difficulties faced in the executed processes, and some related strategies (solutions) which overcome these difficulties. This study took Sunshine Elementary School as an object of study and made use of case study method to research the character education of this school. By means of the purposive sampling, we chose three administrators and seven homeroom teachers as our interviewers. With regard to the implementation processes of character education in this elementary school, we took up a matter with the above interviewers face to face such that we can obtain some valuable suggestions and thinking from the interviewers. By the method of document analysis, the data of this thesis were obtained. Through analysis and inductive reasoning, the conclusions of this thesis were shown as follows: Ⅰ.The character education development of Sunshine Elementary School was consistent with its original ideals. 1. Ideals were divided into four parts: character is a basic ability, character development is more important than academic performance, never give up, and set an example by one's own action. 2. The display of conception of building up lied in the development of character-based school culture building mode, various association activities and integration of character education into the life of students by concrete manners. Ⅱ. The implementation method of character education of Sunshine Elementary School was divided into two parts: school-based and teacher-based. From the viewpoint of school, the character education was achieved by some activities held by government or school and system of related offices of school. From the viewpoint of school teacher, the character education was accomplished by the processes of infusing teaching and classroom management. Ⅲ. Many factors had influence on the implementation of character education of Sunshine Elementary School, and they can be divided into two parts as follows: 1. Inner factors of school: the identification of a school principal, the administrative support from school, and teachers. 2. Outer factors of school: the cooperation and support of the parent or guardian of a child and investment of community resource. Ⅳ. The character education implementation of Sunshine Elementary School improves the learning and behavior of students, teachers’ professional growth and teaching methods. Ⅴ. The implementation of character education of Sunshine Elementary School met many difficulties and obstacles, such as school evaluation, teaching pressure, insufficient time, thinking of the parent or guardian of a child and credentialism. On the strength of above difficulties, Sunshine Elementary School took advantage of the related strategies to solve these difficulties. Key Words : elementary school, character education, case study.
