| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 體育學系教學碩士班 === 97 === The Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game in Tainan County is held in memory of a famous political figure – Mr. Hua-Zong Chen. Since its establishment in 1980, the game is going to enter into the 30th year. It provides the best environment for the volleyball enthusiasts in Taiwan so that they can have more chances to compete and improve their skills. This study aims to explore why local people are motivated to hold the Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game, to explore the developing characteristics of this game at different stages, and to examine its influence on the sport of volleyball in Taiwan.
Two methods are adopted in this study – the historical research and interviews. Through detailed analysis of the related literature and the data collected, the findings of this study are described as follows：
First, Mr. Hua-Zong Chen made a lot of contributions and devoted his life to help local people. To remember his “Hua-Zong Spirit,” local people decided to take practical actions. Therefore, Syuejia Township Volleyball Committee founded and initiated the first Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Championships in Chiayi and Tainan in 1980.
Second, since its establishment in 1980, the Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game has expanded in many ways through about 30 years of active promotion and development. For example, the cities which join the game expand from Chiayi and Tainan to the whole country; from 6 groups (the 1st game) to 18 groups (the 22nd game); from 54 teams (the 1st game) to more than 200 teams; from 2 days long to 4 days; from outdoors to totally indoors (the 21st game). In addition, the funds were raised by local people before, but now subsidized by the government and raised by the officials concerned.
Third, the Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game is established and developed by the local committee whose members are professional and enthusiastic. Besides, the teams which join the game all have marvelous skills. Therefore, the Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game has become a standard volleyball championship and has been approved by other teams and the Chinese Taipei Volleyball Association. The Hua-Zong Cup Volleyball Game definitely plays an influential role in the development of volleyball in Taiwan. However, there are still some difficult problems in the process of its development, such as the source of financial expenses, the setting of the Athletes’ Village, and the source of local players. The officials concerned and the government should pay more attention and make more efforts to seek the solution.
