Slight settlement won’t cause the damage to the nearby facilities. It can be fixed by backfill and ground surface repair when the work reaches at a certain work stage. Accurate calculation of the design with construction quality management can control the ground settlement under the tolerance range of causing damage to the environment. How to reach the goal is the main point of this study. The study first gathers literature reviews of deep excavation and soft clay. It also analyzes the influences and the statistic data of actual disaster cases to discuss the reason why construction disasters happen. They are caused by contrived material or computer program problems during the design phase. Being ignored during the process of construction makes the engineering unsafe and leads to different kinds of disaster. Some only has the loss of money that engineering units spend to recover. Moreover, some even cause the loss of others lives and property. Most of the current researches were on the influence to nearby environment, soil retaining measures and nearby structures caused by deep excavation. However, researches on prevention and reduction methods are very rare. In order to prevent this kind of loss from happening or to lower the loss to its minimum, this study focuses on the disaster preventions during design and construction stage of deep excavation work and instances real engineering examples which are based on my personal working experiences of deep excavation for many years. Basing on the disaster preventions that this study discusses to design and construct, it is sure that those preventions can help enhance qualities and prevent disasters.
