Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 社會科教育學系碩士班 === 97 === In the beginning of 1980s, there is a new wave of marriage immigrants settled in Taiwan. Nowadays, lots of researches indicate that the negative stereotypes toward the new immigrants formed by mass media may easily result in prejudice to against the new immigrants. However, there are few studies about how to reduce the prejudice toward the new immigrants. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to explore the viewpoints about new immigrants for the fourth graders of elementary school, and to realize whether the curriculum about the new immigrants can help the 4th graders know and understand the new immigrants or not. At the same time, the author can observe the teaching effect of helping students reduce the prejudice of the new immigrants. This research is an action research. The sample of this research is the 4th graders who went to the Yang Guang (anonym) elementary school. The students took the pre-test survey, the reduce prejudice curriculum, post-test survey, and deferred interview after nine months. Through the process, the author found that the 4th graders not only gained more understanding not about the new immigrates but also improved their prejudice toward the new immigrates. Besides, the result of this research shows that students understand that the stereotypes of the new immigrants are structured by media. This research adopts the film “My Imported Bride” which is published by the PTS(Publish Television Service), the news special topic “ the daughters come from neighboring countries settled in Southern Australia,” and the information about wedding tradition. Through comparing the new immigrants’ and domestic wedding tradition, we explored the new immigrants’ marriages are not mercenary marriage; through understanding the new immigrants’ life conditions, we explored family violence; we also explored whether the new female immigrants’ Taiwanese husbands have physical and mental defects, their marriage are May-December Love, they have low incomes, their children are low qualities and their development are more slowly or not. Besides, one of our issues in our discussion is to explore if speaking accent represents more stupid. In the class discussion, post-test survey and deferred interview, all they obviously show that students can understand these issues are just cases, not the whole representatives. Moreover, because of lacking former researches as reference, this research still has many shortcomings. The author found that some students are still confused about the issue of foreign labors and the new immigrates. Therefore, for the further researches, the author suggests including the topic into the curriculum to reduce the confusion. Finally, the author suggests that a long range action research by school teachers, a much better designed questionnaire are recommended for further study.
