Additionally, most contemporary textbooks which were examined and revised by Ministry of Education have been used by teachers in school. Therefore, it is necessary to examine textbooks. However, recently, there is no research about investigation that whether the content of social studies’ field in the textbook is related to the subject of environmental education. Therefore, this research explores the issue of the content of social studies’ field in the different grades in the textbook correlated to the current subject of environmental education. Also, this study would offer the helpful information for the future research concerned to the development of social studies’ field in the curriculum approach to the target of environmental education. This research focuses on the analysis of content including activities and educational instruction in the contemporary textbooks in the social studies’ field related to the environmental education in primary schools. The textbooks were published by different publishers. Meanwhile, in terms of the subject of educational education, this research implements in-depth study about the differences of ‘textbook’, ‘activities’, and ‘educational instructions’ in the advanced textbooks of social studies’ field among diverse publications in the current primary schools. This study is the combination of qualitative and quantitative research. The methods include structure interview and content analysis. In terms of the compulsory nine year curriculum, the research emphasizes on the content analysis of textbooks about the higher grades in primary schools from different publication in social studies’ field including books, activities, and educational instruction related to environmental education which comprises five phases - the environmental sense and sensitivity, environmental concept, environmental value and attitude, environmental action ability, environmental action experience. In addition, this study implements the broad analysis of the subject matter in the environmental education. The result of this research concludes most parts of content in the textbooks which were published by the publishers of Nani, Kanghsuan, Hanlin and Renlin in the social studies’ field comprises three phases - environmental sense and sensitivity, environmental concept, environmental value and attitude. On the other hand, the content of textbooks involves less information about environmental action ability and environmental action experience. Concerning the subject matter of environmental education, it contains wide phases such as knows the earth, pollution concern, ecological care, energy problem, population problem, waste treatment, toxic substance, natural disaster, and landscape maintenance.
