Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 語文教育學系碩士班 === 97 === This research aims to use life education as the main content in teaching reading through picture books, biographies for children and young adult novels. Focusing on life education, the instructions led to self-exploration of students. Students were guided to know about themselves, to recognize themselves, to understand themselves, to cherish themselves, and finally to understand the value and meaning of life. Students were asked to collect their own stories from their birth to elementary school stage. They then created their autobiographies with the combination of reading and writing. Suggestions are made for school administration staff and teachers according to the following research findings: 1.Effects on writing: Students developed a positive attitude toward writing after taking the reading/writing course of life education. They tried to face and solve the problems. Meanwhile, students’ writing ability was also enhanced. There was an obvious increase in the total number of words in each piece of writing. Contents and formats in students’ autobiographies met the requirements. Students also had a sense of accomplishment after they finished their autobiographies. 2.Personal growth of students: Students had shown their perseverance during the reading/writing course. They also demonstrated self-awareness and became more self-assured and more thankful for parents and teachers after the autobiographies were completed. 3.Growth of special children: It is found out during the research that autobiography writing with reading and writing integrated can facilitate the behavior change of students with ADHD and students who bully. These students are no longer passive and can actively join in the activities. 4.Growth of parents: Through the participation in the course and related activities, parents learned to improve the parent-children communication. Discovering children were more mature, they learned to respect children’s ideas and adjust their parenting styles. Parents now encourage kids instead of scolding kids. They are also more grateful for teachers’ efforts. 5.Reflections on teaching: Through the reading of life education and autobiography writing, teaching can be more effective. There can also be a better student-teacher relationship, which facilitates class management. Seeing student’s growth, teachers can also enjoy teaching. Through the integration of reading and writing, students can not only improve their language ability but also develop their own values of life.
