We use the content analysis method to analyze mandarin textbooks from first grade to sixth grade, from Kangxuan, Nanyi, to Hanlin Version which pass the examination in 97th school year and amount to thirty six. We examine and analyze the number and the distribution of human right education concept in those textbooks. The conclusions we make are as follows: We classify human rights education into four categories to gather statistics, including human rights cognition, human rights value, human rights fulfillment and human rights skills. In the distribution of human rights education in mandarin textbooks, the Kangxuan version shows most frequent occurrence of human rights education in all three versions of textbooks. Human rights fulfillment shows max number of occurrence in all four categories of human rights education. Human rights values are generally presented in the form of “indiscriminate love”. Human rights fulfillment rarely appears in all three versions of textbooks and human rights skills are usually displayed in the forms of “intellective skills”and “skills of action”. In the aspect of human rights education intension, mandarin textbooks generally present the concept of human rights education. However, human rights history, system, and organization are lacked. In the aspect of human rights cognition, we should emphasize the leisure, ecological, and developmental rights of the children and appeal that we are both members of the earth and should make efforts to make it better. In the aspect of human rights values, we should think highly of respect for life and multiple cultures and the construction of human rights values. In the aspect of human rights fulfillment, the construction of laws, systems and textbooks for human rights are somewhat lacked. In the aspect of human rights skills, students could develop to communicate and solve problems and make best efforts to give service to people of the same community. The researcher makes the following suggestions as a reference for teachers to teach with human rights education according to the described research results. 1. The design of the course could cover different layers of human rights education. 2. Teaching materials related to human rights history and declaration could be added. 3. A learning environment which values human right could be built. 4. The knowledge about human right education of the teacher could be promoted. 碩士 === 國立臺東大學 === 教育學系(所) === 98 === This research aims to discuss the content of human rights education in mandarin textbooks of elementary school. The conclusions we make are as follows:
We classify human rights education into four categories to gather statistics, including human rights cognition, human rights value, human rights fulfillment and human rights skills.
