One Piece is one of the comic works that have been very popular among adolescents in recent years. Many instances of inter-inferring to myths, folk stories, tall tales, fictions, and cartoons can be found in the shaping of characters and interpretation of the storyline of One Piece. This study aimed to analyze characters, storyline, and scenes in One Piece from the perspective of intertextuality to find how associations with multiple texts and the messages conveyed by the texts can be presented through approaches of intertextuality. Results showed that setting of characters and presentation of the storyline in One Piece were achieved through approaches of intertextuality, including pastiche, parody, and collage, and most of which were borrowed from children’s literary texts. Besides, quotation and collage were adopted in the shaping of characters or scenes to present different cultural elements after reintegration and reorganization. These approaches could exhibit the richness and creativity of the work. Moreover, intertextuality in One Piece is an evidence suggesting that creation originates from multiple and cross-cultural texts. The impact of rapid development of the information network and accumulation of culture has further contributed to the prevalence of intertextuality. The approaches of intertextuality also help enrich the content and creativity of the texts, allowing readers to feel the joy of reading texts imbued with creativity.
