| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 管理研究所 === 97 === The semiconductor industry in Taiwan has played important role in the global market, in particular several semiconductor sectors including the foundry, assembly, and testing are currently ranking number one in the world. However, critical testing equipments are still needed to be imported from advanced countries. This study uses a case-study method to analyze possible restructure strategies for the J-company in the testing equipment sector for the semiconductor in Taiwan. The analytical framework adopted in this study begins with using the five-force model to examine the opportunities and threats in the industry competitive environment. Next, we use the ROE-decomposition analysis to investigate competitive strength and weakness of the J-company. Finally, we apply the SWOT model to formulate, and ROE index to evaluate all the possible restructuring strategies for J-company. Several workable strategies are recommended, including (1) to develop higher value-added products; (2) to develop own subordination system; (3) to increase the use of domestic produced parts. Our study also provides a valuable example for for other testing equipment companies in formulating their own restructuring strategies in Taiwan.
