The study begins from investigating the structural designs and operation principles of the pivots. The research then focuses on the mechanism which a pivot can resist external torques at arbitrary position. Based on the force transferring through the components, mathematical equations among the related dimensions are derived. Finally, a tolerance analysis method is applied to the pivot and sensitive factors of the related dimensions are identified. The results of this study show that slightly reducing the tolerance of the torques applied to the screws and nuts can effectively reduce the variation of the torsion resistance of a pivot.
