This research also addresses the correlation between the mouse population and distribution and the number and location of Scrub Typhus cases found in Kinmen. The final focus of the research is to discuss ways to treat and prevent Scrub Typhus cases in Kinmen. Following are results of the study show: 1.Analyses using linear regression has shown that there is no obvious correlation between the increase in tourist visiting Kinmen and the increase in Scrub Typhus cases (r =0.145,p =0.69). There is no obvious correlation between the distribution of mice and the location of Scrub Typhus cases(r =0.686,p =0.201). Finally it was found that there are noticeable peak seasons for new Scrub Typhus cases to be reported (r =0.705,p =0.000). 2.According to the data analysis from 2005 to 2007 : (1 ) the ratio of infected cases, men: women are 3:1, (2) infected male soldiers are 65%, next are unemployed or farmers respectively. Most infected women are unemployed, say 42.1%, (3) Most of those infected are between the ages of 21-30, say 46.6%, next are between 51-60 years old, say 12.6%. (4) The peak time for infections is between May and July with another spike in September and October. (5) Other factors in the spread of Scrub Typhus are as following: location of mice on the island; the number of Scrub Typhus and the carrier rate of Scrub Typhus; the extent of medicines using in environment; the education of the population on prevention and treatment of the disease. 3.There are some common symptoms that those infected with Scrub Typhus will develop, eschar (89.91% of patients) and fever (74.36% of patients). Most bites occur often on the following areas of the body, belly (23.36%), groin area (19.15%), and the armpit (18.22%). This study based on the experts’ interview shows that reducing the number of Scrub Typhus cases will take work in many areas such as environmental protection, personal hygiene, medical treatment, and the cooperation of the people of Kinmen.
