碩士 === 東吳大學 === 社會學系 === 97 === The main purpose of this study was to explore why single woman chooses not marry and lives in original family, and the interaction between social networks and family members. In the first phase, researcher divided age into three groups（25 to 35 cohort、36 to 50 cohort and above 51 cohort）and selected three samples for each group. In the second phase, nine samples were accepted interview for several question of research. According to content of interview, nine samples whose life course greatly differ from each others. Even with similar life events, because of the diversity of personality and family background, nine samples present multiple life courses. The major findings of this study were as following： 1. The single woman chooses live in original family is affected by the personality, family and social factors together. 2. The various life style of nine samples which live with original family is caused by their personality，social-economic status, the number of biological family members, and the relationship of attachment. 3. Both younger and elder single women have obligation of caring family members and working chores under social motherhood. 4. Whether single woman has single identity, sexual awareness or not, nine examples have experienced unfair treatment because of social stereotype about single women. 5. The positive attitude of single women resulted in their supportive awareness. Finally, this study discussed these findings and proposed some suggestions. It also addressed further research directions in the future.
