Description
Summary:碩士 === 國防大學政治作戰學院 === 社會工作碩士班 === 97 === Abstract There have been many quantitative studies that examine how trust can influence customer’s attitude and behavior in the industrial and business sector. However, there seem to be little emphasis placed on the field of interpersonal trust in the elderly care and nursing institution – a sector of increasing economic and social significance in an ageing society. In order to improve the quality of care and the quality of life for residents in elderly care and nursing institution, understanding the nature of “trust” has increasingly become an important issue in elderly care and nursing institution sector. The primary purposes of this study were to explore the factors that influence an elder's trust in the social worker and the consequences of the trust in the social worker. For the purposes, this research applied the qualitative method of interview to collect data. Data was collected from 12 elders and 5 social workers from an elderly care and nurse institution in Taoyuan County. After data analysis, several important findings are made as following: (1) The relationship between elder and social worker: Care and respect are two of the most important needs for the elderly; Social work will be difficult without the help of trust; the elderly did not like to contact with the nursing staff. (2) The elder’s trust in social worker: the factors that influence an elder's trust includes the elderly themselves, social workers, prepared and adaption, and other factors; the elder’s trust can be divided into 3 types-emotional trust, cognition-based trust and institutional trust; the majority of elderly respondents express high level of trust to their social workers. (3) The Problem of social workers: Many social workers have the problem of role ambiguity; the proportion of social worker allocated to the elder is insufficient. Based on the above findings, this research has made the following suggestions. (1) For elderly care and nurse institution: (a) Providing related consultations and services about the residence, (b) respecting individual difference of each elder, (c) encouraging professional staffs to communicate with others actively, (d) Improving the relationship quality between the nursing staffs and the elder; (2) For elder and social worker: (a) Encouraging elders to express their feelings and opinions, (b) Planning physical and mental exercise to suit elder’s need; (3) Policy: (a) Increasing the proportion of social workers allocated to the elder by amending the law, (b) establishing more effective social work system.
