The production of the urban edge which can be viewed as cutting residue under the urban planing is almost the result of the urban extension or compression.
However the Embankment, a real body of which two sides separated clearly, provides a protected contradiction.
“A linear urban reading” tries to think that the embankment
---the defence line in the city---how it be transformed to a line which can read into the city.
The line it sews the break between artifact and nature, and creates the new urban linkage : Historical / Natural / Ecology / Urban Festival. The line created becomes a consecutive space; by the way of changing people’s moving and watching, it will be an introduction before entering the city.
