碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 97 === Abstract The production of the urban edge which can be viewed as cutting residue under the urban planing is almost the result of the urban extension or compression. However the Embankment, a real body of which two sides separated clearly, provides a protected contradiction. “A linear urban reading” tries to think that the embankment ---the defence line in the city---how it be transformed to a line which can read into the city. The line it sews the break between artifact and nature, and creates the new urban linkage : Historical / Natural / Ecology / Urban Festival. The line created becomes a consecutive space; by the way of changing people’s moving and watching, it will be an introduction before entering the city.
