When compared to the articulation of articular cartilages, the artificial joint undergoes a boundary lubrication in which a thin layer of synovial fluid molecules was formed between the artificial joint materials. Therefore, a larger wear rate was observed in the artificial joint system. Various compositions such as albumin, globulin, hyaluronic acid and phospholipid are contained in the synovial fluid. Therefore, the lubrication thin film properties from various compositions are critical to the tribological properties of artificial joint materials. In this study, we are going to retrieve the synovial fluids for quantitative analysis of various compositions. The friction coefficients and viscosity of the collected synovial fluids will be measured as well. Than, we are able to estimate the effect of synovial fluid biomolecules on the tribological performance of artificial joint. The results obtained from the retrieved synovial fluid indicate the same trend. The correlation between the concentration of phospholipid and the friction coefficient was significant. However, it can also be observed that the correlation between concentrations of hyalurohic acid and the friction coefficient was not significant. Hsu-Wei Fang 方旭偉 2009 學位論文 ; thesis 77 zh-TW
