The linear guideway and other components were used to build the structure of motion platform. In this study, we proceed the FEM modal analysis and experimental modal analysis about the linear guideway. The results shows that natural frequencies and mode shapes obtained from FEM by using the elements of mass and spring to replace the original contact elements are in good agreement with experimental modal analysis. The effects of different preload value of bearing and different bearing ball material on the natural frequency of linear guideway has also been studied. Finally, the natural frequency and mode shape of the motion platform has also been studied using FEM under different preload of linear guideway. The results and methods presented in this thesis provides a good reference for the design or select of linear guideway and the motion platform.
