The research steps include: creating 3D design model based on design function, conduct of association specification and working experience;studying the key parameters that affect the stress distribution according to curved beams theory;using the commercial finite element analysis technique and the Taguchi method to search the optimum size of the latch structure under given loading. The design parameters considered include the pushing displacement on the component, the height of the curved portions of U shape of structure designed, the length of moment arm, and the thickness of the sheet metal. An optimum solution under the design criteria is generated in this case study, and a simple test is conducted to verify the solution. The final results also show that the most influential factor on the design of latch structure is the pushing displacement on the component, the second one is the height of the curved portions of U shape of structure designed, the third one is the length of moment arm, and the least influential factor is the thickness of the sheet metal.
