| Summary: | 碩士 === 淡江大學 === 建築學系碩士班 === 97 === “The unintended use” is referred to the phenomenon that objects and features in the daily environment are used in such ways that defer the initials purposes of designs to accommodate the users’ current needs. This phenomenon can be seen as result of environmental affordance that derives from users’ intentions, past experiences, the characteristics of the objects and the surrounding environment. The environment may provide different affordances for different individuals depending on their specific needs. The discovery of affordances is a process of environmental perception in which human being takes an active part in interpreting objects and information in the surroundings. This research is focused on how objects in the environment provide affordances for users in Tam-Sui, and how the larger environmental conditions may influence the existence of affordances.
Through the environmental analysis, the research discusses that objects can provide properties of the affordance. This attempt is to explore all kinds of crucial elements of the environmental design operation. The role is to provide samples for designers, the result will be considered as the references of the environmental designing process. The following results have been obtained after studying and analyzing the statistical data:
1.The production of the affordance is the result of three mixed conditions, such as “Environmental niche”, “Affordance”, “Motivation & Behavior”. The co-relation between Affordance and Behavior is called “The system of supporting feature”. Certain objects can create any kind of different affordance. In which, it involves that the forms, shapes, subjective object, and intermediate objects, etc. These related elements can be reflected on all kinds of behavior. Besides the relationship between object and behavior, it still needs to consider the condition of the Environmental niche. Then, it can form a complete “Affordance space”.
2.The system feature supports, “Horizontal linear”, “Continuous surface with horizontal surfaces”, “Cross liner with its tubal diameter less than 5 centimeters”, “Solid walls”. According to different heights, materials, habitat, objects approach and body approach will create different affordance.
3.The research of the environmental affordance is to create multiple possibilities of the use. When the environmental designer control the dimensions, shapes etc. that related to certain behaviors. According to the different needs defined by the users, a single object can be found in the environment with all kinds of affordance.
