He combined new with traditional music elements, initiated the harmony theory founding on Central Tone, and aimed in composing music for practical usage. This paper features in Hindemith’s ‘Sonata for Bassoon and Piano (1938)’. The author studies the living background of Hindemith, his general characteristics of compositions, and analyzes the context of the sonata. Through real experiences of collaborating with a bassoonist, the author (pianist) also provides interpretational suggestions, such as how to balance tone
color and volume, fingerings…etc., for those who are interested in knowing more about this work as well as how to help such two instruments play well together.
