Description
Summary:碩士 === 雲林科技大學 === 資訊工程研究所 === 97 === Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) is a novel standard (IEEE 802.17) for the construction of local and metropolitan area networks. It has two protection mechanisms, steering and wrapping, to recover a link failure on the network. Both of the mechanisms can restore the network in less than 50 ms, and maintain the connectivity between each node. In a RPR network, there are three types of service classes, classA, classB, and classC so that RPR can provide Quality of Service (QoS) guarantee. In this study, we focus on the video quality for the transmission of MPEG encoded bit stream in different traffic service classes as the protection mechanisms start. We develop a simulative platform, which can take real video media as traffic loading for input to RPR network to test the RPR transmission functionalities. In the simulative experiment, we can see the qualitative difference of the MPEG video transmitted in the protection mechanisms of RPR. At the same time, we compare the frame delay of classA, classB, and classC under the two protection mechanisms of RPR when traffic loading is configured from 0% to 50%.
