Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 環境與安全工程系碩士班 === 97 === Rapid urbanization and economic development in Taiwan have caused overpopulation in many cities since 1980. From then on assembly residential buildings were more and more popular and became the main housing type in many cities of the island. However, most of the buildings in these cities are built over decades ago and they are not applicable to the current era. Once these buildings catch fire, severe damages and loses of life would be expected. As a result, "fire disaster study for assembly residential building” becomes an important issue in Taiwan to prevent similar tragedies from happening.
This research focuses on Ling-Mu-Hua-Cheng (鈴木華城) assembly residential building that located in Sinjuang City of Taipei County, it caught fire in 2008 and caused three deaths and two injuries. This study utilized FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) software developed by NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology, USA) to investigate the fire accident. Through FDS, one can not only analyze the fire process and simulate different mitigating conditions, but can also explore many important parameters such as temperature, pressure, velocity, CO concentration, and visibility of a fire, etc.
The simulation results show that the extended iron window frames with combustible materials placed on them shrunk the space of ventilation shaft within the building; therefore, a "chimney effect of fire" happened and the fire jumping from the third floor to the tenth floor inside the shaft, expanded the accident and caused three people dead. If fire-proof sliding barriers are placed on the windows inside the shaft or fire retarded materials are employed in room decoration and furniture, the fire can be greatly reduced and will not expand to other area. Therefore, it is necessary for the authority to enact related laws for asking the owners of assembly residential building to build fire-proof sliding barriers inside the shaft, also strictly ban the action of placing combustible materials on the extended iron window frames inside the shaft. Finally, the authorities need to persuade residents employing retarded materials to replace combustible decoration. Only by all the aforementioned measures, one can possibly prevent the similar fire disasters from occurring.
