It resulted many of Taiwan’s architecture techniques hereon. From northern part to southern part of Taiwan’s local street, we could see this kind of architectural forms. Tainan in this way has the most long history and rich cultural background. We could also interpret the meaning of images on the wall decoration design elements at the time to understand the meaning of the design. The research method is mainly through field work, or we call “field research methodology”. The practical modalities for the Tainan area house wall decoration for the record, including the collection of literature, field surveys, analysis and interpretation. Research breaks into 3 areas. First area, sorted out through field research all the different phase of the street house period during the Tainan area. Second area, through image analysis techniques, it generates the interpretation of the western-style building on the theme of the wall decoration image interpretation and meaning, and then we could segment them into represented models, stories, styles. After that, we continue to do classification and exploration into decorative images and determine whether it is purely decorative or meaningful. Third area, provides a visual communication design reference for decoration designers to understand the original meaning of the process of images to use in the current design creativity as a reference. Through this research finding, it showed that the major construction style of the Tainan area are from 1920 to 1940 and mainly consist of 4 construction techniques, Historical style, Art Deco style, Brick style and the modernism style. As matter of the fact, it can be recognized styles were directly impacted reflecting the time and era which during its construction period. The image analysis resulted that, majority of the styles in the Tainan area Western building are combination of the Western decoration image, with few elements from the tradition Chinese approach., and is classify as four major themes. Typically contains positive or supportive images for good fortune. Compared to other region in Taiwan, such as Taipei, Taoyuan and Douliu, Western style buildings in Tainan are far more conservatives and constantly with simple decoration, which symbolize one of the characteristics of the Western Style building in Tainan.
