碩士 === 國立中正大學 === 財務金融所 === 98 === This paper examines the impact of economic and non-economic factors on earning performance of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Test results showed that the game-fixing scandals in 1997 and 2008 had a significantly negative impact on CPBL attendance and a significantly negative relationship existed between real GDP per capita in Taiwan and CPBL attendance. In addition， the effect of Major League Baseball (MLB) on attendance was significantly negative. The appearance of Taiwan Major League (TML) in the late 1990s also had a negative but insignificant impact on CPBL attendance. Empirical findings offer useful information and implications for league authority， ball club owners in CPBL and the government. To rekindle the passion of fans， the evidence suggests that the authority of CPBL has to build an environment free from game-fixing and outside interference. The CPBL club owner should implement more reasonable salary system to encourage the native talent to stay in domestic league. The government should demonstrate the political courage to crack down on gambling cliques and prosecute their political protectors to prevent the recurrence of the game-fixing scandal.
