Description
Summary:碩士 === 中華大學 === 資訊管理學系(所) === 98 === With the advancement of the Internet and liberalization of global telecommunications, all telecommunication industries are devoted to development of new technologies. New high-speed wireless broadband technologies have thus been introduced one after another. The new IEEE802.16 mobile communication technology, Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) has also been introduced into Taiwan. Under the promotion of the government, three WiMAX licenses have been issued to operators in northern, central, and southern regions by National Communication Commission (NCC). The year of 2010 can be viewed as the Year One of WiMAX in Taiwan. However, WiMAX operators need to cope with user examinations and competition with 3.5G operators. Despite government’s support and promotion, whether WiMAX operators can win support of consumers and gain a status in the mobile networking market has become an important issue. Based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Innovation Diffusion Theory (IDT), this study constructed the research model and hypotheses to explore consumer perception of 4G WiMAX and intention to use 4G WiMAX. This study also applied Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to build a current usage model of WiMAX. The research methodology was mainly based on literature view and questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was administered to domestic people with experience of using WiMAX. The collected questionnaire responses were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis to test the relations between research dimensions. The results showed that if users perceive positive value of WiMAX, their attitude will positively affect their usage intention, and the more they perceive WiMAX as useful, the more positive their attitude will be. Therefore, WiMAX operators should continue to offer practical services to WiMAX users. Users’ perception of the compatibility of WiMAX also positively affects the usefulness of this technology. In the present, WiMAX is still at the fledging stage in Taiwan. The main constraint to its development is that the six licensed operators can only offer their services in their respective areas, and mobile broadband resources in northern and southern regions have not been integrated. Therefore, operators should speed up their launch of roaming or merging programs to increase users’ perception of the practicality of WiMAX. They should hold more promotional activities to introduce the benefits of WiMAX and extend the trial period to enhance users’ usage intention. This study explored users’ attitude and intention regarding usage of WiMAX and expected to provide WiMAX operators some reference for their future development.
