Summary:碩士 === 中山醫學大學 === 營養學研究所 === 98 === Metabolic syndrome (MS) and its associated diseases have caused excessive economic burden for medical care system in Taiwan. Besides genetic factors, the impact from environmental factors also plays an important role responsible for the development of MS. The hospital staff characteristics are likely to be unhealthy and stressful; they are prone to be the high risk group of MS. This study examined the characteristics of MS among 324 hospital staffs. Cross-sectional analysis was sued for questionnaire based on the data of routine health check-up. Results showed that the prevalence of MS among hospital staff were 7.7%; the older has higher prevalence than the younger (P<0.05). People with longer working time have higher prevalence of MS (P<0.05). Person with diabetic family history has higher prevalence of MS (P<0.05). There was no difference in dietary habit between MS and non-MS groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: hospital staffs seemed a group with high MS prevalence. Thus, more healthy and/or medical attention needs to be paid for this group.
