Description
Summary:碩士 === 正修科技大學 === 運動健康與休閒所 === 98 === Bodybuilding is a unique sport with the goal of muscle development and pursuit of ultimate muscle definition; the concept differs from the body aesthetics generally held by the public. Objectives: (a) To examine the motives and the purposes that drive male and female bodybuilders to devote themselves to bodybuilding. (b) To study male and female bodybuilders’ perceptions of body image and how these perceptions are influenced. (c) To compare male and female bodybuilders in regard to their body image and drive for greater muscularity. Methods: Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ), the Social Physique Anxiety Scale (SPAS), the Sociocultural Attitudes towards Appearance Questionnaire-3 (SATAQ-3), the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS), and the Drive for Muscularity Scale (DMS) were issued to 41 male and 6 female bodybuilders to compare male and female bodybuilders in terms of the difference, correlation, and influence of their drives for increased muscularity. Conclusions: According to the Independent-sample T Test, female and male bodybuilders’ results on Muscularity-oriented Body Image (MBI) are significantly, but no difference, whereas occupation, weight class division at contest, and best performance achieved in national / international competitions exhibit significant difference in the drive for muscularity according to One-Way ANOVA. In addition, the results of Pearson product-moment correlation show that the values of physical fitness, self-presentation, imformation pressure, internalization muscularity, intrinsic motivation, extrinsic motivation, amotivation, MBI, and muscularity behavior (MB) between male and female bodybuilders are positively correlated, while the appearance evaluation between them is negatively correlated. The results of path analysis show that weight class division at contest, best performance achieved in international competitions and sociocultural attitudes towards appearance have direct and indirect influence on drive for muscularity.
