Therefore, multi-core system, the kind of system architecture which contains several cores in one single chip, becomes more and more popular. The demand for multi-core system''s communicating capability will definitely increase. Producing mass flow easily results in problems of delivery delay. Moreover, as the development of application extends, the functions that it should support also increase. Network-on-Chip (NoC) can solve this communicational problem of the architecture that such a complicated System-on-Chip brings about. This thesis introduces the network architecture on NoC and designs a router for NoC which provides priority-based function, co-ordinating with wormhole-switching as well as XY routing algorithm, and it can be applied to multi-core systems in the future. While both important and less important packets require transmission, the priority-based function makes the more important packet transmitted first with the higher priority to save the time from waiting and avoid influencing efficiency of the entire system due to waiting. In the experiment, we design a 3x3 two-dimension mesh NoC architecture and operate the priority-based communication, making use of the router that provides specific functions, and it will further promote the efficiency of multi-core system.
