The researcher compared similarities, differences and features of music curriculum in Taiwan and Mainland China. Therefore, the purposes of this research were as follows: (1) to research the background of music curriculum for junior high school in Taiwan and Mainland China; (2) to analyze current situation of junior high school music curriculum; and (3) to study the current problems and to find some solutions. By using a qualitative research with literature analysis and interviewing, this study got the following conclusions. First, music teachers at remote and rural areas both in Taiwan and Mainland China were all lacking. Second, teaching periods for music lessons were insufficient which thus affected the quality of music teaching and learning. Third, facilities and resources for music lessons vary quite differently between urban and rural schools both in Taiwan and Mainland China. Fourth, both teachers and students paid little attention to music lessons because music is not included in entrance examinations for higher education. Fifth, the contents of the teaching materials for arts and humanities area failed to combine with modern information; thus, music curriculum aroused little interests from students. By comparing junior high school music curriculum between Taiwan and Mainland China, the researcher gave the following suggestions. First, the supporting systems of music teachers should be established and the possibility of co-hiring music teachers should be evaluated. Second, the teaching periods for Arts and Humanities Area should be re-evaluated. Third, more facilities and resources for music lessons should be given. Fourth, the educational functions of music lessons should be affirmed in order to promote art and culture in the society. Fifth, music curriculum should add some modern fashion information so that students will be more interested in learning music. The researcher hoped that these conclusions and suggestions will make some contributions to future music curriculum for both Taiwan and Mainland China. SAN-YINN LAN 藍三印 2010 學位論文 ; thesis 206 zh-TW
