Summary: | 碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用日語學系碩士班 === 98 === Confidence is how someone feels about oneself on certain issues in a short period of time. Being an exchange student in Japan for one year, I can feel theprogress of my Japanese proficiency. However, the self-confidence of using Japanese is still insufficient. Currently, not many studies have been conducted concerning Taiwanese exchange students for short-term study in Japan. Therefore, this thesis takes Taiwanese exchange students for short-term study in Japan as participants and focuses on how the confidence of their listening and speaking abilities can beincreased and how they have changed. The analysis of this data indicates three main points.
1.Overall speaking, the major factors that affect students’ listening abilities also strongly relate to ‘meaning understanding’ before, while and after studying abroad.
2.The major factors that affect students’ speaking abilities are‘meaning expressing’ before going abroad; ‘meaning expressing’ and ‘emotional function’ while studying abroad and ‘meaning expressing’ and ‘emotional function’ after finishing studies.
3.Interviews with Taiwanese exchange students for short-term study in Japan show that by actively participating in school activities and after school ones and building relationships with others can be consistently helpful in increasing the self-confidence of using Japanese.
Consequently, participating in school activities, visiting International Student Center often, involving oneself with after school activities, traveling, having part-time jobs and making friends with native speakers of Japanese can be beneficial to the enhancement of self-confidence of using Japanese.
This study may have shown a pattern, but it is necessary to increase more data for inspecting the pattern in the future.
