In order to retain the economic as well as the ecological resources, ecotourism communities should be well informed with their benefits and costs for the sustainable development. Thus, the purpose of this study is to adopt the contingent valuation method to evaluate the recreational values in the case of Taomi ecotourism community. This study utilizes the combination of double-bounded dichotomous choice and open-ended elicitation survey to estimate the tourists’ willingness to pay (WTP). Using the expenditure function theory as the theoretical model, the WTP measures are calculated by Tobit model for the open-ended data and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is applied for the bidding function. Based on our results, the annual willingness to pay per tourist is NT$766.53 to preserve the recreational resources for the Taomi ecotourism community, indicating that the recreational resources in Taomi ecotourism community produce economic values of approximately NT$14.69 million a year. Also, the annual willingness to pay per tourist is NT$604.07 to enhance environmental quality in the community, indicating that the community can potentially create approximately NT$11.57 million per year in the future by enhancing their environmental quality.
