Methods: A total of 370 middle-age women consented tand completed the International Physical Activity Questionnaire and the Greene Climacteric Scale to assess PA and MS. Canonical correlation was used to evaluate the relationship between PA and MS. Result: The mean age of the sample was 50.0(±5.95) years. The average age of menopause was 50.19 (±2.92) years. Among all variables of PA intensity and category, moderate and work-related PA were the highest. There was no significant difference in all variable of PA intensity and category among subjects with different menopausal stage. The mean score of MS was 10.74(±10.83) with “feeling tired or lacking in energy” the highest disturbance. Subject in the postmenopausal stage had higher scores in “difficulty in sleeping”,“ loss of feeling in hands and feet”, “hot flash, feeling dizzy or faint”, “night sweats”, and “loss of interest in most things” than their pre- and peri-menopausal-stage counterparts. No significant was found between variables of PA intensity or category and MS in the premenopausal stage. For peri-menopausal stage women, moderate and vigorous PA had a respectively negative (.39) and positive (-.82) correlation with psychology symptoms, and all level of PA intensity variables had a positive correlation with vasomotor symptoms (0.62). In the postmenopausal stage, PA category variables, work-related PA correlated negatively with psychological and somatic symptoms (.61 and .60, respectively). Conclusion: To lighten the disturbance of MS, peri-menopausal women may choose moderate PA like swimming or yoga to decrease psychology and vasomotor symptoms, while on the other hand, vocational PA and a balanced house and chore activity may lessen the disturbance of psychology and somatic symptoms for postmenopausal women.
