The content includes teaching problems facing Yilan County middle school Mandarin teachers and comparisons of the differences in five areas: between their curriculums, professional knowledge, support systems, student management, and workloads. Further, the differences in personal backgrounds amongst Yilan County middle school Mandarin teachers and how it affects the teaching issues facing them and their strategies of responding to such issues is explored; the relationships between the issues facing Mandarin teachers in Yilan County middle schools and their responding strategies are also discussed. After analyzing previous studies and papers and interviewing teachers, Questionnaire for Teaching Issues Facing Yilan County Middle School Mandarin Teachers and Strategies of Response was made as an investigative tool. The questionnaire was used to conduct research with the 209 middle school Mandarin teachers in Yilan County’s twenty-three middle schools for the 2009 school year. The data gathered from the questionnaire was analyzed with statistical procedures of frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, and regression analysis…etc. The conclusions of the study are as follows: I Teaching predicaments facing Yilan County middle school Mandarin teachers. 1. The main factor of teaching predicaments that JHS Mandarin teachers in I-Lan have is professional knowledge and capabilities. 2. Among those knowledge and capabilities, the multiple pronunciations of single character edited by Ministry of Education over the years is the most confusing one. 3. I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers’ teaching predicaments are different with their teaching backgrounds. Ⅱ The strategies of response by Yilan County middle school Mandarin teachers. 1. I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers really have requirements for searching responding strategies and they are highly in need of seeking solving methods. 2. Facing all the I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers’ predicaments, teachers use resources on the Internet as the main responding strategy 3. Asking favors from teachers in the same field in school is the eagerest and most direct requirement when I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers seek assistants. 4. Who I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers seek is different with varied age levels. Ⅲ The relationships between the issues and problems facing Mandarin teachers in Yilan County middle schools and their strategies of response. 1. I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers’ teaching predicaments are related to every aspect of the responding strategies. 2. I-Lan JHS Mandarin teachers’ knowledge and capabilities of teaching predicaments are related to the whole responding strategies. 3.
