In order to measure the level of job stress, this study used “Job stress scale” designed by Ching-Ching Li and “Job burnout scale” designed by Ko-hung Lin. This study distributed 88 questionnaires and collected 83 valid samples. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple stepwise regression. Research findings and results are presented as follows: 1. The overall job stress perceived by teachers at public elementary schools affiliated kindergarten in Hualien County is moderate. If distinguished by dimensions, teachers reported that “policy environment” is the major source of job stress, “time arrangement” is the second source, followed by “work load,” “demands from superintendents,” “teaching,” and professional knowledge”. “Interpersonal relationship” is the least. 2. Teachers at public elementary schools affiliated kindergarten in Hualien County reported little to moderate level of job burnout. Among different dimensions, “physical fatigue” generates the greatest feelings of job burnout; the second is “lack of sense of achievement”; the third is “emotion depletion”. However, teachers experience less feelings of burnout in interpersonal detachment. 3. Job stress reported by teachers at public elementary schools affiliated kindergarten in Hualien County varies from age, types of school, and administrative duties. 4. Job burnout reported by teachers at public elementary schools affiliated kindergarten in Hualien County varies from age, types of school, and administrative duties. 5. Perceived job stress has predictive power in explaining the perceived job burnout reported by teachers at public elementary schools affiliated kindergarten in Hualien County. In the conclusion, this study proposes concrete recommendations for teachers who have additional administrative tasks in public elementary schools in Hualien County, educational institutions and future researchers.
