The main purposes of this study are: (1) Understanding the current English teaching situation in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County. (2) Investigating the opinions of school administrators, English teachers, and students about English teaching in elementary schools. (3) Discussing the encountering problems and coping strategies in the process of English teaching. (4) According to the research findings, advancing suggestions for the references of educational administrant, elementary schools, and English teachers instruction. To achieve all the purpose mentioned before, this study adopts survey research and interviews. The research based on self-organizing document, “questionnaires of the current English teaching situation and opinions in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County”, “questionnaires of the English teaching opinions in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County”, and “the interview summary of English teaching in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County”. The participants of the questionnaire survey are 56 English teachers and 562 fifth grade students in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County. The participants of the interview are six school administrators in elementary schools of remote districts in Tao-Yuan County. All material acquired are keyed in the computer and use SPSS10.0 for windows to analyze materials. The process completes by means of statistics methods and “One-sample t-test”. The interview materials are saved in literature forms. According to the analysis of the data, this study has concluded to this conclusion: 1. In terms of current English teaching situations, English teachers in school mainly serve as tutors who don’t have qualifications for English teaching. Teaching materials are mainly provided by the Ministry of Education. English popularizations in school mainly consist of decorating English learning environment. Most schools have regular English examinations which are almost paper examinations. 2. In terms of teachers’ opinions, elementary school teachers of remote districts must have qualifications for English teaching. The selection of teaching materials is fit for students. English teaching must begin in the first grade, and before bringing into practice, some related auxiliary measures must be perfect. Regular English examinations are helpful to improve English teaching effect. 3. Problems of English teaching are mainly too many differences between the levels of students. The corresponding strategies for teachers are that seek for the assistance of colleagues or attend research and study. In terms of teaching materials, choose rich and interesting materials to match the levels of students. In terms of teaching, students are divided into groups or teachers decorate English environment. In terms of examinations, teachers level down the difficulty of examinations or replace of other ways of examinations. 4. In terms of opinions of students, students prefer the way of classes which are games and contests. Students meet problems will seek for solutions. Students hope the way of examination by games.
