碩士 === 國立高雄海洋科技大學 === 航運管理研究所 === 99 === The globalization of business has forced multinational firms to pursue the integration of global manufacturing with international logistics and transportation systems. Accordingly, many container shipping companies have invested in logistics service activities to improve their performance. To successfully meet their customer’s logistics service requirements, it is imperative for the container shipping companies to understand the demand of logistics services from a customer’s perspective. Thus, this study aims to investigate the demand of logistics services in the southwest China from a manufacturer’s perspective. The results indicate that seven critical logistics service dimensions were identified based on the factor analysis: picking and consolidation service, supporting service, warehousing service, logistics value-added service, logistics information service, transportation planning and information inquiry service. Cluster analysis is subsequently performed to group respondents on the basis of their factor scores. Four groups or segments were identified: information inquiry and support services preferred group, warehousing and transportation planning services preferred group, packing and logistics information services preferred group, and no particular preferred group. The theoretical and practical implications of the findings on logistics services market for container liner carriers are discussed.
