Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄師範大學 === 工業科技教育學系 === 98 === The main purpose of this study is to develop junior high school students’ concept of biotechnology assessment tools, to investigate junior high school students’ knowledge of biotechnology in Kaohsiung City, and to provide a reference point for the design of future curricula in biotechnology. The subject of this study is a group of public junior high schools in Kaohsiung City. Depending on the size of the school (large, medium, or small) a proportionate stratified random sample was taken from each of the 12 selected schools. A total of 745 subjects were selected and underwent testing. This study used a self-compiled questionnaire entitled “Assessment of Junior High Students’ Concept of Biotechnology” as its research tool. The research method involved the use of this questionnaire to investigate and assess the current level of knowledge of junior high school students in biotechnology. The assessment questions were divided into three fields: “The Essence of Biotechnology”, “The Meaning of Biotechnology”, and “The Evolution and Development of Biotechnology”, for a total of 38 questions. The results of the pre-assessment sample test were analyzed and unsuitable questions were deleted to create the formal questionnaire. According to the analysis of reliability, the Cronbach α value is 0.83 and the spilt-half reliability is 0.831. The assessment of Kaohsiung City junior high students’ concept of biotechnology is as follows: 1. The students’ performance in the assessment was unsatisfactory. The average rate of correct answers was 46.2%, indicating that the sample students lacked sufficient knowledge of the concepts of biotechnology. 2. With regard to the size of schools, there was no evident difference in performance. 3. With regard to gender variables, first-year female students scored higher than first-year male students. Second-year students’ scores did not differ significantly. 4. With regard to the variables of the families’ socioeconomic status, the students from upper-class families outscored those from middle-class families, who in turn scored higher than those from lower-income backgrounds. 5. In terms of the school-year variables, second-year students’ grasp of the concepts of biotechnology was much better than that of the first-year students.
