| Summary: | 碩士 === 高雄師範大學 === 視覺設計學系 === 98 === Comic is the most popular reading for teenagers in Taiwan. However, the market has been occupied by Japanese comics so that few people pay attention to local comics, and that is the biggest problem that local industries faced. After analyzing the history of the comic industry in Taiwan, the only way to make a breakthrough is to combine local culture to shape unique style. The theme of this creation is Taiwanese traditional auspice culture. The folklore is adopted to investigate Taiwanese traditional auspice culture; also, utilize semiotic to analyze Taiwanese traditional auspice signs. In order to provide a new direction for Taiwanese comic industry, and exalt the traditional auspice culture, use related auspice signs to design characters, appliances and scenes based on educational psychology to make this experimental work could contain both Taiwanese traditional auspice culture and certain style.
The title of this creation is “You are on your own,” describing how an unfortunate boy pursues his happiness with characters that possess the connotation of Taiwanese traditional auspice culture. The spirit of this story is “God helps those who help themselves,” and make an introspection about the meaning of happiness in tradition as well. This work combines hand-drawn and CG techniques to produce a 75-page, A4 sized, and colored-cover comic book. Through the process, one has experienced a lot about Taiwanese auspice culture, and constructed advanced painting style.
