碩士 === 國立屏東商業技術學院 === 國際企業所 === 98 === As the trend towards larger vessel size and hub-and-spoke network in maritime, the main ports around the world have been making a great effort to enhance their ports’ infrastructures and operating efficiencies, aiming to attract ocean carriers and become a transshipment hub. To learn the operating efficiencies of international container ports across the Taiwan Strait and offer the operators some suggestions, this paper examined the output variable volumes container operated and input variables such as yard crane, berth length, loading-and-unloading facilities and size of used place with the ports surveyed during the period from 2003 to 2007 by applying Data Envelopment Analysis approach. Of the 11 investigated ports, this paper got findings that Hong Kong port and Xiamen port had the best operating performance, while Dalian and Taichung port were behind others. Examined the economic scale, Taichung port posed a decreasing returns to scale, while Keelung registered an increasing and costant returns to scale.
