The aim of this study was to examine the influences of recreational motivation on activity involvement, place attachment and perceived crowding through the case study of Penghu Lantern Festival. Questionnaire survey was adopted as the research method for data collection, and the samples were collected conveniently on the research site. A total of 500 questionnaires were distributed, of which 455 valid questionnaires were returned. The valid response rate was 91 %. The Structural Equation Modeling was utilized to analyze the data. The results indicate that recreational motivation has significantly and positively influences on activity involvement and place attachment; activity involvement has significantly and positively influences on place attachment; place attachment has significantly and positively influences on perceived crowding. Moreover, though the activity involvement did not have significantly influences on place attachment, it affected perceived crowding mediated by place attachment. Finally, relative recommendations were proposed based on the outcomes found in this research.
