In addition, this study also explores the relationship among background variables, the environmental hormone knowledge, attitude, and behavior of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City. Moreover, this study also investigates the correlation among the environmental hormone knowledge, attitude, and behavior of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City. In order to achieve the goal of the research, the researcher compiles the questionnaire as research tool- “The Research of the Relationship among Environmental Hormone Knowledge, Attitude, and Behavior of Elementary School Teachers in Kaohsiung City”, adopting the questionnaire technique to generate information. To be specific, there are 407 effective samples out of 440 totally, which means that the rate of receiving the questionnaire is 92.5%. The data was calculated and analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA by the software “SPSS12 for Windows”; the data was also analyzed statistically by “Pearson’s product-moment correlation”. The findings of the research are as following:
1. Regarding to the aspects of relevant environmental hormone knowledge: the average overall score is 60.09 (full marks is 100), which means that the teachers’ knowledge of environmental hormone is not sufficient; the average score of overall attitude is 88.46 (full marks is 100), which reveals the environmental hormone attitude is approaching to the observed positive side. Moreover, the average score of the overall behavior is 72.92(full marks is 100), which indicates the behavior is inclined to the positive side. The main resources of the environmental hormone knowledge of elementary school teachers in Kaohsiung City are mostly from mass communication media (41.3%), followed with webwork (13.8%), and then guidelines for textbooks (2.0%); finally, the lowest rate which the hormone knowledge came from is the seminar about environmental hormone knowledge (4.4%). However, about 38.6% of the teachers did not have the knowledge related to environmental hormones.
2. There are significant differences of environmental hormone knowledge owing to the background factors such as “the scale of school”, “majors”, “participation of environmental workshop or not”, and “the sources of environmental hormone knowledge”. However, other background factors such as “gender”, “age”, “years of teaching”, “administrative duties of the teachers” and the “educational background” do not show significant difference in terms of environmental hormone knowledge.
3. There is no significant difference of environmental hormone attitude owing to the background factors such as “gender”, “age”, “ years of teaching”, “administrative duties of the teachers”, “the scale of school”, “the educational background”, “majors”, “participation of environmental workshop or not”, and “the sources of environmental hormone knowledge”.
4. There are significant differences of environmental hormone behavior owing to the background factors such as “gender”, “age”, “ years of teaching”, “the scale of school”, “majors”, and “participation of environmental workshop or not”. However, other background factors such as “administrative duties of the teachers”, the “educational background”, “majors”, and “the sources of environmental hormone knowledge” do not cause any significant difference in the aspect of environmental hormone behavior.
5. There is significant positive-correlation between the environmental hormone knowledge and attitude. Likewise, the relationship between hormone attitude and behavior is also positive. Nevertheless, there is no significant relationship between environmental hormone knowledge and behavior.
According to the results and conclusions of this study, the author proposed the following suggestions to teachers and the administration:
Teachers should participate the workshops about environmental education, conservation of nature, and environmental protection which are held by the government or private organization. In addition, to make teachers be familiar with environmental hormone and apply it into teaching, the government can hold more seminar, training and activities which are related to environmental hormone. Therefore, teachers can apply environmental hormone in environmental education, and at the same time, the teacher can play the leading role to better the environment.
