Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 嬰幼兒保育研究所 === 98 === When the first graders (new students) are trying to accustom themselves to formal school education, they are influenced by both their family and the people who are taking care of them. Additionally, they need to cope with the pressure of study at school. Moreover, their growth and development, and learning are also affected by sleep quality. The main purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of first graders’ sleep quality and further explore the major attributes of the people who are taking care of them, the problems they encounter in transition from kindergartens to primary schools and the relations between sleep hygiene and sleep quality. The mothers of the first graders (new students) of 2009 school year at the public elementary schools in Taipei City and County or the people who were taking care of them were the population of this study, in which samples were taken using convenient sampling method and information was gathered through structured questionnaire. Totally, there were 436 valid samples, with an availability of 92.2%. Important results were summed up as below: I. Generally speaking, mothers (the major caregivers) of first graders had limited knowledge about sleep. The family economic burden family affected their consciousness of first graders’ sleep quality. II. Most first graders didn’t have adequate sleeping hours. The sleep quality of students from families with two or more children was affected. III. The change of learning environment from kindergartens to elementary schools indeed posed pressure to first graders and affected their sleep quality. IV. Academic stress had great influence on first graders’ sleep quality. The prolonged time needed to finished homework posed the heaviest pressure to those students. V. Mothers’ (the major caregivers) guidance of first graders’ sleeping behaviors had the great influence on their sleep quality. The cultivation of the habit to engage in static activities before sleeping could help students sleep well. VI. The after-school environment (after-school classes) should be properly arranged for first graders. The choice of suitable cram school, talent classes and class hours are very important. Based on the results of this study, it was suggested the following steps be taken: 1. Sleep-related knowledge should be included in parents’ education. Symposiums on sleep should be held to provide teachers and parents with related knowledge and consultation channels for their reference. 2. Class schedules should be flexibly adjusted. The introspection of teachers should be strengthened. Teaching activities need be adjusted according to the length of first graders’ attention. Attention needs to be brought to the building of peer relationships among students. 3. Parents should continue to provide their children with guidance on their sleeping and appropriately arrange after-school environment such as after-school classes, cram school and talent classes to improve students’ sleep quality.
