Sanyi's wood carving was thrived during the Japanese occupation, and has been experienced prosperity, decline, and transformation. However, wood carving remains as an important feature industry in Sanyi to date.The old mountain rail route was decommissioned in 1998. But due to the splendid sceneries along,Shenghsing station, Dragon-Emblem broken bridge, continuous tunnels and other railway culture, attract many tourists to take a glimpse of Sanyi.Scenic restaurants, Inns and other leisure industry are thrived with breathtaking landscapes around 130 County Road and Liyutan (Carp) Reservoir. In addition to wood carving, railway and leisure industry, Yutong flowers, Hakka culture and cuisine are also special features of Sanyi area. Festivals have been held regularly as a medium to draw tourist. Sanyi tourism resources were divided into nature and humanity in this study. I. Natural travel resources: 1. Unusual terrain and geology 2. Natural habitat 3. Hydrology 4. Climate II. Humanity travel resources: 1. Historic monument 2. Feature industry 3. Culture 4. Religion 5. Humanity distribution 6. Entertainment According the survey, the most popular tourist attractions are historic monuments. Shenghsing station and Dragon-Emblem broken bridge top the ranking. However, the history is not fascinating enough to draw customer’s attention. Most tourists come only for a glimpse of it. In order to make tourists curios and motivated to visit the region, repackage and remarketing are crucial.The most potential tourist resource of Sanyi is its richness of natural habitat which recommended by local tourist operators. However, they also worried about possible damage caused by over-exploitation.The study also found that Sanyi area can be divided wood carving, the old mountain rail route, 130 leisure industry, and Liyutan (Carp) Reservoir. However, in order to create a rich and deep travel experience for tourist, inter-region cooperation needs to be improved. Effective Integration is recommended.
